Come Up Higher

“And set your minds and keep them set on what is above (the higher things), not on the things that are on the earth.” (Colossians 3:2 TPT)
As I've been seeking the Lord to know what's on His heart, I keep hearing this word from Him – “Come Up Higher!”
I understand that it is easy to get distracted and discouraged by all the chaos and drama going on in the world, but the Lord is calling us to set our minds on Him and things of Him. Amidst everything swirling around us, when we rise above it all and focus on things of Him by choice, then we will be able to see things from His perspective: “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts than your thoughts.” (Isaiah 55:9 NIV)
One of the ways to come up higher is to spend time in worshiping Him. Everything God tells us to do is always for our benefit and not His own. God's not egocentric, and He does not want us to praise and worship Him to feel good about Himself.
Instead, everything He tells us to do is always, always for our good. So, when God asks us to worship Him, it is because something changes within us for the better, and our perspective shifts to a higher perspective, to be able to view things with our Father God’s vision. We can then see the big picture no matter what problems exist around us. We are able to see God as bigger than everything else - all our anxieties and worries get minimized in light of who He is and how magnificent and powerful He is!! Now doesn’t that make us feel a whole lot better? We are not weighed down anymore!
As I pondered over this, I heard the Holy Spirit say – “What you focus on, gets magnified and what you starve your attention from, gets minimized.”
We need to be mindful that we focus on magnifying the Lord and things of Him, so that He is larger than anything else around us. So when the enemy tries to shift the affections of our heart and attention of our mind onto other things of this earth, let's quickly starve focus from those things. Let’s give predominant focus to Christ’s love for us, our hope in Him, delighting in His presence and the companionship of the Holy Spirit.
What a good Father God we have who always has our best interest at heart!
Please pray along with me –
Father God, please help us to respond to Your invitation to ‘Come Up Higher’, that we may perceive things from Your vantage point. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
