It’s an Earth-Shattering Thing

‘Then Jesus made a public spectacle of all the powers and principalities of darkness, stripping away from them every weapon and all their spiritual authority and power to accuse us.’
-Colossians 2:15 The Passion Translation
We’re beginning to ask ourselves, ‘what is this world coming to?’ We look around at the culture that we’re immersed in and we’re left speechless. Can a person truly believe the ideas which are being declared and affirmed daily? ‘You can choose a gender based on how you feel.’ ‘Sensuality (and more) is appropriate to display in public places, and to teach to children.’ Even expressing dissension from the godlessness of our culture is considered criminal.
This sounds like I am describing today’s news, but it is also an exact description of the Roman Empire in the book of Acts. It was a world pursuing personal autonomy; pleasure and personal gain at the expense of the powerless. This is the world in which Jesus preached, the disciples were trained, and the Apostles turned the world upside down.
What were those truths that inspired and fired the early church to turn them into risk-taking transformers who would not back down?
For the first time since Creation, a man could walk and talk with God.
We are free from the crushing burden of sin on our souls.
The love of God is true!
We were freed from our earthly perspective to finally get a God’s-eye-view.
It’s like the snake in the dust sprouted wings to soar sky high. My existence is no longer bound to the time and place in which I was born, or its standards; my spirit is released to eternal time and space. With that comes the anointing to do the things that Jesus said we could do.
The best part is that nothing that this culture declares can stop us! We have shaken off that burden of self-justification, and are running free, and released from the bondage of the world’s ideas. I don’t need anything they have to offer; I have the acceptance of the Father. I have the power of the Holy Spirit. I have the forgiveness of Jesus.
So let’s go!
